Lemon-Aid for Relay

Emma has been so excited to have a lemonade stand again. She had one last July with her friend Sydney. They raised about $220 for Relay For Life that warm summer afternoon. She couldn't wait to do another lemonade stand after that experience. Then for Christmas, Kim got her a Relay For Life bake sale kit and a "Relay Princess" t-shirt. I can't tell you how many times I heard, "When can we have our lemonade stand, Mom?!" Finally the time had come. We set a date of April 23rd. Emma and Sydney made fliers to advertise their event. Sydney's mom, Lora, took the fliers to Staples where they donated 120 copies on pink and purple paper. Emma and Allison were so excited to go deliver their fliers to a few friends in our neighborhood.

On Friday, April 23rd Sydney was Star Student. She shared with their class about the lemonade stand that she and Emma were holding after school. Both girls mentioned they were raising money to help find a cure for cancer. After their presentation they handed a flier to all 55 kids in their class.

The kids were so sweet accepting their fliers from Emma and Sydney!

Their classmate, Aanika was their first customer at 4:00 pm! Let the selling begin!

Jeff stopped by for a glass and some red vines before heading to OSH to buy veggies to plant in the garden.

Mr. and Mrs. Quale came by for their afternoon refreshments too. Mr. Quale was a learning guide in Emma's PE class and now he is a student teacher in her classroom. Mrs. Quale is also a teacher at Emma's school.

The girls pose with Ms. KV, their PE teacher.

Amy stopped by for a quick glass of lemonade for the kids before they headed to baseball practice. She also had Allison over all day for a play date with Layla. That gave me time to help Lora get things set up for the big sale!

Papa Carl came by with Danielle.

One of the local AMS crews came by to pick up their glass of strawberry lemonade.

Mrs. Walker (one of Emma's teachers) and her husband stopped in. Emma's other teachers, Mrs. Quintana and Mrs. Magana, also came by. There were even teacher from other classes that stopped by to support the girls!

Allison even wanted to take a picture with Mrs. Walker...her potential kindergarten/1st grade teacher! Normally Allison is so shy around Emma's teachers, but today she ran right up to her for a hug!

We set up some signs on the stop signs just outside the court where we held the lemonade stand. These sweet girls saw the sign and decided to come by for a glass. How kind is that?!

Mr. Hepner, Emma's school's Facilities Director, even made an appearance!

Past and present classmates (Alaura, Emma, Daniela, Crystal, Sydney, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Ashlyn, Jessika and Tyler's older sister) stopped by for some lemonade. They stayed for a while and mingled with the group. It was quite a little gathering of all her friends from school!

I sent Emma's flier out to a few of my friends in my Moms Club. Most of them were able to stop by, including Ella and Adrienne. Allison loves to play with the twins!

When 6:00 finally rolled around the crew was beat! They had customers from their school, my school (my principal and 3 of my students stopped by!), neighbors, relatives, church members and even total strangers visit! Most of their treats were gone and nearly 20 pitchers of lemonade were emptied! What a day!

Time for the workers to sample their own refreshments!

Lora, my partner in crime, was instrumental in publicizing the girls' lemonade stand. It wouldn't have been as successful without her ideas, energy and enthusiasm. Thank you, Lora!

Time to count the earnings! First the girls sorted all the bills and coins into different piles.

Then it was time to do the math! Secret business here!

As of the first counting they raised a total of....now get this...$545.39!!! Can you believe it! The power of a couple sweet girls wanting to make a difference in the lives of those battling cancer. Can a mom get any more proud?!

Now the really cool thing is that word of their story has spread and donations are still rolling in. As of tonight they are closer to a total of $700 to donate to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event this weekend. Truly remarkable!

Emma and Sydney are such sweet and amazing girls. I can't thank you enough for being who you are. I love you!

Camden and Allison were a big help during the sales too. They enjoyed being able to help their big sisters. They were even more excited to play with the left over balloons that night! Allison kept saying, "I dropped my balloon Mommy. Can you get it?" as it would float to the ceiling. Camden was in on her fun and games too. Those goofy kids!
