Emma's Butterflies

Aidan and Layla gave Emma a Butterfly Pavilion for her birthday. We finally sent away for the caterpillars using the coupon that comes with the pavilion. Emma eagerly watched her caterpillars turn into chrysalises. She didn't want to touch them though :)!
Allison was very intrigued by the little critters, as well.

A few days after the butterflies turned into chrysalises, Allison was excited to place them in the Butterfly Pavilion. Emma would have no part of holding the chrysalises on their paper!

She would only hold the pavilion with the chrysalises already attached inside.

Five days or so after we put the chrysalises in the pavilion our Painted Lady butterflies emerged! We placed an orange in the bottom of the pavilion and watched as they used their proboscis to sip the juice from the orange. Pretty cool stuff! We love Mother Nature!

After a day or so of keeping the butterflies, we decided to let them go free in the backyard. The girls enjoyed watching them fly away and off to another adventure.

There they go! Bye butterflies!
