Celebrating at School

Mrs. Walker poses with the birthday girl!

Now Mrs. Adams gets a turn...

Mrs. Magana shares birthday smiles with Emma. Mrs. Quintana was absent, so we missed a picture with her.

Every morning the school day begins with Unity. All the K-4 grade students surround the grassy quad to pledge the flag, listen to announcements, sing their classroom chants and honor any birthday kiddos! Today was Emma's turn to be honored! She waited eagerly in line to be called out...
When the birthday kiddos come out, they are given equations to take to another student of their choice. The equations all have the answer of the day of the month it is. In this case, the answers were all 28! For example, 14 x 2 = 28 or the square root of 100 + (2 x7) + (2 x 2) = 28. It is amazing the math these kids see every day!

Off she goes to deliver her equation...

She delivers it to her friend, Kaitlyn.

After all the equations have been shared, all the students sing Happy Birthday to the birthday kids!

Emma gets in a quick giggle with Kaitlyn. While at school, it's so cool to feel so special on your birthday!

Later on in the day I brought back donut holes for all 55 kids in her class. They got one plain and one chocolate covered one. I was able to talk her out of an entire donut...that's a lot for these kids to eat. This was the perfect size for them! Plus this choice was a bit more budget friendly!

Emma and her best friend, Sydney, share a donut hole together. Yum!
